Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Grossing Technician I for the Pompano Beach, FL area. This entry-level position involves performing surgical gross examinations of small, uncomplicated specimens under supervision and adhering to clinical lab policies.

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM, with duties including specimen accessioning, labeling, and maintaining specimen integrity. The role offers exposure to grossing low-to-moderate complexity cases and may involve basic histology

Qualifications

• Associates Degree preferred for lab roles.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
• Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling
• Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
• Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
• Capable of grossing low to moderately complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision, as applicable to training and experience.
• Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants or Pathologists.
• Record measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicable.
• Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• May be trained to perform basic Histology functions (embedding, microtomy, stains, frozen sectioning) if qualified.
• Complete paperwork and ensure compliance with safety and QA standards.
