Job summary

The Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in Chicago seeks a Front of House Representative for the seasonal, part-time contract from mid-October through December. You will welcome and seat guests, manage intermission and post-show flow, and support the House Manager to ensure a warm, organized venue.

Evenings and weekend availability is required; pay starts at 17.05 USD per hour with potential extension beyond the season for strong performers.

Qualifications

• Evenings and weekends availability Oct–Dec.
• Customer-facing experience in fast-paced settings.
• Theatre, ushering or live events experience preferred.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to scheduled shifts.
• Able to stand/walk for extended periods in a historic building.
• Comfortable using handheld ticket-scanning devices.
• Dress code: polished business attire with black bottom and white/black top.

Responsibilities

• Welcoming guests, seating and directing them to seats.
• Greet guests warmly and maintain a welcoming presence from doors to exit.
• Scan tickets, direct guests, and seat patrons quickly and accurately.
• Address seating issues, escalate to House Manager as needed.
• Assist guests with accessibility needs and follow house policies.
• Share show details (curtains, intermission, run time, restrooms, parking).
• Support intermission and post-show traffic and orderly exits.
• Perform assigned role each night (Greeter/Usher/Floor Captain).
• Know emergency exits and assist in emergencies.
• Report incidents and lost items; stay available to help teammates.
• Help keep lobby/restrooms clean and reset after performances.
