Job summary

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, MA is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Forensic Unit on a part-time, evening schedule. You will assess and plan individualized care, monitor patients, and administer treatments in a secure therapeutic environment.

The team collaborates with psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, and social workers to deliver trauma-informed, patient-centered care while ensuring safety and recovery goals. BLS within 30 days is required.

Qualifications

• Active Massachusetts RN license required (single state or compact).
• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Behavioral Health/Psychiatric/Forensic nursing experience preferred.
• Strong assessment, communication and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage challenging patient behaviors in a therapeutic manner.
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation experience preferred.
• Commitment to patient-centered and trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
• Monitor patients' physical and behavioral health status; respond to changes.
• Administer medications and treatments per orders and policies.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, social workers, and team members.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Support safe therapeutic environment through de-escalation and crisis intervention.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and discharge planning.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications and goals.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and safety initiatives.
• Advocate for patients while promoting recovery-oriented care.
