Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Long Island is seeking an Environmental Service Worker I for the Evening shift (3:00PM–11:00PM, Monday–Friday with alternating weekends). The role serves a diverse patient population and requires following the 7-step cleaning process to ensure a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and approximately 1–3 months of related cleaning experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Approximately 1–3 months experience to learn cleaning procedures.
• Good interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Report to Supervisor for assignment.
• Obtain cleaning equipment and ensure items are in place.
• Introduce self to patients/visitors/employees and explain assignment.
• Complete the 7 Step Cleaning procedure.
• Vacated patient area: bed sanitizing, linen management and neatness.
• Visually inspect area to confirm cleaning standards.
• Stock supplies and maintain cart organization.
• Ensure environmental cart does not block fire doors.
• Follow chemical safety guidelines and secure chemicals.
• Maintain cart in working order and report unsafe items.
• Use AIDET with patients, visitors and staff.
• Promote hospital service standards and positive patient experience.
• Demonstrate competency in the 7-step cleaning procedure.
