Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking an Environmental Service Worker I to join the Environmental Services team for full-time evening shifts (3:00PM–11:00PM), Monday–Friday with alternating weekends. The role services a diverse patient population across life stages and emphasizes safe, thorough cleaning and compassionate patient interactions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Approximately 1–3 months experience to gain knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment use and maintenance.
• Continued education through appropriate seminars, workshops, inservices & attention to NYU policy.
• Good interpersonal skills demonstrable in interactions with staff, administrators, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Report to Supervisor for assignment.
• Obtain cleaning equipment and insure all cleaning items are in place.
• Proceed to destination and introduce self to patient/visitors/employees and briefly explain your assignment.
• Ensure 7 Step Cleaning procedure is completed.
• Follow 7 Step Cleaning Procedure in vacated patient area including bed sanitizing ensuring linen is clean, neat and in excellent condition.
• Visually inspects area upon completion of cleaning to ensure appropriate levels of cleaning and neatness have been achieved.
• Obtains cleaning supplies and cleaning chemicals to complete assignments.
• Stock closet/cart with needed supplies/chemicals to complete required assignments.
• Maintains cart in neat clean orderly condition.
• Ensures that Environmental cart is not blocking any fire doors.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines when using chemicals.
• Ensures all chemicals are secured when leaving the area.
• Maintains cart in working order.
• Reports unsafe equipment and products to supervisor.
• Utilizes AIDET with each patient, visitor and staff encounter.
• Promotes and projects the hospitals service standards in their daily job tasks.
• Promotes a positive patient experience during all patient encounters.
• Demonstrate competencies related to the 7 step room cleaning procedure.
