Job summary

The University of Iowa's Iowa Memorial Union is seeking a Custodian I to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment within the facility. Responsibilities include floor care, cleaning surfaces, restrooms, and using commercial cleaning equipment.

This full-time on-campus role requires physical activity and professional communication with students and staff. The shift is 3:00pm to 11:30pm, Thursday through Monday; starting salary is $36,874.08 per year with benefits.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and visitors.
• Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
• Experience performing labor-intensive work is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Floor care: vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
• Clean all surfaces including glass, walls, ceilings and fixtures; elevations may be required.
• Sanitize and disinfect restroom surfaces.
• Operate commercial cleaning equipment.
• Remove trash inside and around the exterior of the building.
• Move furniture, supplies and equipment; report repair needs.
• Maintain professional communication with students, staff, coworkers, and visitors.
• Perform a high level of physical activity; move objects as needed.
