Job summary

North High in Omaha is seeking a full-time Custodian 1 for evening shifts (4:00pm - 12:30am, Mon-Fri). The role involves cleaning classrooms, corridors, restrooms, and common areas, plus operating cleaning equipment and basic maintenance tasks.

The position includes health/dental/vision/life insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, NPERS retirement, and a small hourly stipend. Starting pay is $21.16 per hour.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required; completion of approved housekeeping courses is preferred
• Experience as a school custodian is desired
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
• Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
• Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment
• Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
• Ability to establish and maintain amiable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, and the public
• Ability to work overtime on occasion
• Ability to complete required training and proper usage of products and equipment
• Ability to work from a ladder and scaffolding
• Ability to perform duties with minimum supervision
• Must wear uniforms and PPE as provided

Responsibilities

• Floorcare including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot cleaning, stain and gum removal, and shampooing of floors (43%).
• Trash pickup and emptying; clean and dust restrooms, classrooms, boards, erasers, and furniture; maintain supplies (42%).
• Replace defective lightbulbs; clean grills; dust surfaces; report maintenance needs; collaborate with supervisor and staff (10%).
• Trash removal from grounds and playgrounds; water turf; sweep sidewalks; operate and care for equipment (5%).
