Job summary

Harvard University is seeking a part-time Facilities Custodian to join the Facilities Maintenance Operations team in Cambridge, MA. This role performs cleaning of offices, labs, libraries, restrooms, and common areas, with focus on cleanliness, safety, and customer service.

Work hours are 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 25 hours per week, on-site at Harvard Graduate School of Design. The position offers competitive compensation of $28.75 per hour, requires at least 1 year of cleaning

Qualifications

• A minimum of 1 year of cleaning industry experience required
• Basic proficiency in the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking
• Provide responsive customer support in all phases of custodial and related building operations.
• Must be quality-focused, customer service-oriented, and able to routinely communicate clearly in the English language with co-workers and customers in a professional environment.
• May be assigned to work independently or as part of a team under the guidance and direction of the Area Supervisor and/or Crew Chief.
• May be required to work occasional overtime in support of business needs.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and specialized cleaning of academic and non-academic spaces, including offices, dormitories, laboratories, libraries, athletic facilities, classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and entryways.
• Sanitizes bathroom surfaces, fixtures, and food handling areas.
• Restocks restroom and kitchen consumables daily.
• Broom sweeps, mops floors and stairs as assigned.
• Dusts and washes furniture, walls, and horizontal surfaces.
• Vacuums carpeted floors; empties trash and recyclables.
• Operates floor machines for stripping, waxing, and burnishing.
• Washes interior and some exterior windows.
• May perform residential housekeeping during events.
• May move furniture and heavy objects; may assist in snow removal.
