Job summary

Independent School District 196 is seeking a custodian for 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.). The role involves cleaning, minor repairs, moving furniture, and assisting with building security and grounds duties.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned building areas and perform minor repairs as directed.
  • Move and arrange furniture as needed.
  • Assist in securing the building at shift end.
  • Support the school recycling program.
  • Assist with grounds duties including trash pickup, mowing, weed control, and snow removal.
  • Perform duties in a timely, neat and efficient manner.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Previous custodial and routine maintenance experience, preferred
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
  • Must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties including lifting up to 50lbs on a regular basis and display flexibility in cleaning assignments.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with staff, students and the public.
  • Must have a desire to work in a cooperative manner and team environment.
  • Must have a good attendance record and be punctual.
  • Must have positive work performance evaluations. Must not have any recent disciplinary actions.
  • Must conduct a positive interview and receive a good reference from current and previous supervisors.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Compensation / Benefits

According to contractual agreement (based on 2026-27 contract)

Custodian: $22.86 - 26.57 Hourly
