Job summary

UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Safe Harbor is seeking a Crisis Clinician I to join the Crisis Intervention team for evening shifts (2pm-12am). Position includes weekend/holiday requirements and on-site parking.

Responsibilities include crisis counseling, assessments, and coordination of services to individuals in crisis. The role emphasizes de-escalation, motivational interviewing, and collaboration with supervisors to provide compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work with one year of mental health direct care experience.
• OR Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work required.
• Other fields with at least 12 credits in human services and relevant mental health experience.
• Experience in phone triage and psychiatric assessments preferred.
• Mental health crisis intervention, case management, or in-home therapy experience preferred.
• Excellent, recovery-oriented interpersonal relations.
• Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
• May handle medications transport; ensure safety and storage protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis services in community and office settings, including assessments, counseling, and crisis planning.
• Manage crisis situations independently using positive approaches and motivational interviewing techniques.
• Complete consumer and family crisis assessments (face-to-face and by phone) and provide follow-up via phone or mobile visits.
• Support consumers by promoting stability, coordinating referrals, and negotiating appropriate services.
• Maintain accurate documentation, complete required paperwork, and navigate insurance processes and authorizations.
