Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Security Specialist to provide security services for Inpatient Psychiatry Units and VTCC. The role focuses on courteous staff, visitor, and patient support while enforcing hospital rules and promoting a safe, respectful environment.

The incumbent will engage in proactive violence prevention, de-escalation, and training to strengthen safety and customer service, working all shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.
• Training or certification in conflict resolution, de-escalation and/or violence prevention is a plus.
• Minimum of three (3) years of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience is required.
• Five (5) years of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• De-escalates agitated patients, individually and as part of a team.
• Evaluates the physical environment and develops patient management strategies.
• Prevents potentially risky and/or violent situations.
