The Evaluator will be hired by LAEP and supervised by the Director of Evaluation, Accountability, and Impact. This position supports evaluation projects in early learning, community schools, college and career readiness, equity-focused leadership development, K-12 programs, organizational development, and related areas. Following Culturally Responsive and Racially Equitable Evaluation (CRREE) approaches, the Evaluator develops data collection instruments and approaches, conducts surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other data collection, analyzes qualitative and quantitative data, writes reports and other deliverables, makes presentations to internal and external audiences, creates and coordinates timelines and budgets, contributes to grant proposals and communications products, and manages staff. This position requires travel to conferences and meetings as well as collecting data on site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Program Design, Evaluation, and Improvement

  • Conduct developmental evaluation (e.g., needs assessments, literature reviews, consultations) to inform the design and pilot-testing of new programs.
  • Conduct program evaluations of existing programs to inform their improvement and measure outcomes.
  • Carry out evaluation activities for the purpose of reporting to our funders, board members, community members, and other stakeholders.
  • Engage research participants in CRREE approaches, such as community advisory committees, focus groups, data sense-making sessions.

Organizational Development

  • Support the implementation and improvement of LAEP’s logic model to measure progress toward outcomes (e.g., quantitatively, through stories).
  • Assess, make recommendations about, and implement approaches to institute and improve a unified data tracking system.
  • Support the data collection, analysis, and reporting connected to LAEP’s strategic plan dashboard.

Advancement

  • Attend, network, and present at local, state, and national conferences.
  • Write and publish reports, evaluation summaries, fact sheets, and other documents on LAEP’s website.
  • Collaborate with program and research partners to conduct studies or other evaluation-related activities.
  • Provide data, narrative, and editing to support grant writing and reporting.
  • Support Marketing and Communications efforts through literature searches, data analysis, reporting, and research syntheses.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Master’s or Doctorate in education or related field with at least 3 years of program evaluation or research experience
  • Experience designing and supporting evaluations or research projects in applied settings
  • Experience analyzing and reporting on qualitative and quantitative data, as well as mixed methods approaches, especially by engaging evaluation participants or community co-evaluators
  • Familiarity with CRREE approaches
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including writing concisely and clearly for different audiences
  • Strengths-focused interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Project management skills, particularly the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing competing demands
  • Experience evaluating programs related to birth through preschool and K-12 education programs
