Job summary

LER TechForce in Columbus, IN is seeking an embedded software engineer to support controls development for EV-related projects. You will work on MATLAB/Simulink based algorithms, perform in-vehicle validation, and troubleshoot software/controls issues.

You will collaborate with hardware teams, conduct bench and vehicle tests, and contribute to FMEA/RCA/FTA analyses while growing your technical expertise in power electronics and battery management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field required.
  • 2+ years hands-on experience in embedded controls software.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink is required.
  • Knowledge of EV systems and CAN/J1939 is highly desired.

  • Investigates controls problems and documents results.

  • Delivers independent execution while developing tech knowledge.
  • Guides project team on technical direction.

Job description

Job Location

Local to Columbus, IN area and capable to travel into the customer building depending on project needs, approximately 3-4 days in the office weekly.

What you will be doing:
  • Investigates controls problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and validation, run design review and documents results. Tools include Matlab/Simulink, PCAN view, Canalyzer, etc.
  • Makes decisions in the areas of software requirements, implementation, and testing that impact the quality and performance of software subsystems and feature classes.
  • Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
  • Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
  • Support general controls and diagnostics development, troubleshooting, validation for electrification product.
  • Conduct bench or vehicle testing to verify embedded software features functionality and robustness.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in the following areas:
  • MATLAB Simulink algorithm development
  • In-Vehicle Validation: CAN tools, J1939.
  • Calibration/Tuning knowledge, related to Governors, Diagnostics, Sensors etc.
  • General Electric Vehicle knowledge: Battery Pack/System, Traction, Power Electronics, EV charging/AC/DC Fast Charging/ Vehicle-to-Grid type of feature
  • 7-step problem solving, FMEA, RCA, FTA etc.
  • Good communicator – written and verbal

What you'll need to be successful:
  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines. Mechanical Engineering degree HIGHLY preferred as well as 2 or more years of hands-on experience.
  • Must be able to understand controls software and troubleshoot software/controls issues
  • Involvement in specification, design, implementation, testing and/or release of software
  • Experience with Matlab Simulink is required
  • Experience with In-Vehicle Validation: CAN tools, J1939 is highly desired
  • Experience with calibration/tuning knowledge, related to Governors, Diagnostics, Sensors etc. is highly desired
  • General Electric Vehicle knowledge: Battery Pack/System, Traction, Power Electronics, EV charging/AC/DC Fast Charging/ Vehicle-to-Grid type of feature is highly desired
  • Transmissions experience is helpful but not required
  • 7-step problem solving, FMEA, RCA, FTA etc. is helpful but not required
