Job summary

Ecology Action in Northern California seeks a Technical EV-C Project Manager to support property managers and electrical contractors in designing, constructing, and commissioning Level 2 EV charging at multifamily housing and businesses.

You will perform site assessments, electrical load studies, and prepare technical reports, site plans, and construction estimates while coordinating with planners, contractors, and property operators.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction/electrical trades, preferably multi-family or commercial properties.
  • Experience with EVSE installation and troubleshooting.

We are seeking a Northern California Based (SF/Marin/Sonoma/Mendocino and Surrounding Areas) Technical E lectric V ehicle C ha r ging (EV-C) Project Manager to support property managers and electrical contractors to design, construct, and commission low-power and level 2 load managed electric vehicle charging infrastructure at multi-family residential housing properties and businesses.

About the Role

The Technical EV-C Project Manager will conduct site assessments and evaluate electrical systems, conduct electrical panel load and power studies, create technical reports and EV charging site plans, create construction and operational cost estimates, and work closely with property managers, contractors and City/County planning departments to ensure successful completion of code-compliant EV charging installations. In the capacity of technician, the position will conduct testing for weights and measures compliance, perform preventative maintenance on EV chargers, monitor the operational status of EV chargers and respond to and resolve operational issues for EV chargers installed in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area.

What you'll be doing

Project Administration

  • Tracking project milestones and tasks in customer management database; maintaining accurate and organized records of required documents.
  • Informing project workflows and processes in collaboration with project operations team to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Participating in team and staff meetings .

Lead Generation and Customer Acquisition

  • Directly engaging multifamily properties, small businesses, non-profit organizations and public agencies to submit EV charging project applications.
  • Working with EV Charging program management and business development teams to identify and engage new external sales channels and partnerships.

Technical Assistance and Project Implementation

  • Scheduling and conducting site walks and technical assessments with property operators to identify optimal parking spaces for EV charging stations near common electrical panels.
  • Communicating with property operators to identify and document electrical loads, site constraints, parking logistics and preferences for shared or assigned EV charging.
  • Preparing technical reports with site-specific scope of work and project design.
  • Presenting EVSP software payment settlement options that meet property operators’ business needs.
  • Preparing construction estimates and evaluating bids from EV charging installation contractors. Evaluating projects for cost-effectiveness.
  • Presenting technical reports, scopes of work, and construction estimates to property operators.
  • Supporting property operators to prepare contractor bid packages and notices to proceed to contract for EV charging station installations, and/or issuing purchase orders to subcontractors for Ecology Action’s direct installation projects.
  • Supporting property operators with construction project management and equipment commissioning.

Operations and Maintenance

  • Working under the supervision of Ecology Action’s RME to install and or replace EV chargers.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on various make and models of EV charging hardware, including networking equipment.
  • Coordinating with property managers and EVSPs regarding equipment troubleshooting, maintenance and operations requests.
  • Effectively communicate project repairs and hardware needs to internal staff, site owners and managers.
  • Initiating vendor quotes and submitting O&M proposals to customers.
  • Documenting resolutions to EV charger operational issues and maintain uptime requirements for chargers installed by Ecology Action and our subcontractors.
  • Using testing equipment to conduct weights and measures tolerance tests, ensuring chargers meet CDFA weights and measures regulatory requirements, and placing chargers into service with local the County agricultural commissioner.
  • Ensuring that OSHA and Ecology Action safety protocols are followed at Ecology Action job sites.

What We’re Looking For

  • C-10 electrical contractor license or DIR certified electrician in the state of California ( or currently enrolled in an approved DIR apprenticeship program) .
  • 5 years’ experience working in the construction and/or electrical trades, preferably working at multi-family and/or commercial properties.
  • Experience and technical proficiency in EVSE installation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with the technical support teams of Electric Vehicle Service Provider vendors (EVSP)
  • Familiarity with CA building code, electrical code Cal-Green code, and permitting requirements for EV charging stations.
  • Experience managing client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor or owner’s representative.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s license, a reliable personal vehicle available for work purposes (mileage reimbursement provided), and current automobile insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills with experience communicating to wide variety of audiences with varying levels of knowledge about EV charging systems.
  • Proficiency with a variety of tech platforms such as Asana, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS Office Suite, Air Table, Field Wire.
  • Ability to perform electrical load calculations per NEC (National Electrical Code).
  • Ability to read and/or produce electrical plans and single-line drawings.
  • Familiarity with drawing software programs.
  • Familiarity with CDFA Division of Measurement and Standards regulations for Electric Vehicle Fueling Systems (EVFS).
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to find creative solutions to achieve success.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Excellent time management skills including an enhanced ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent and professional communication (both written and verbal).
  • Strong and professional interpersonal, relationship building, and facilitation skills. An orientation to collaboration and vulnerability-based trust.

EV charger repair and troubleshooting will inherently require the employee to work in areas containing high voltage and currents. When assessing or performing work on electrical systems, the employee will be responsible for wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position is hybrid (home/office) and remote work at multifamily and commercial job sites. Technical assessment project sites will be located in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. Operations and maintenance activities will be distributed at project sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California.
