Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS) Engineer to join their Upington facility in the Northern Cape. Design, develop and implement BMS for EV battery packs, ensuring safety, performance, longevity and reliability through intelligent management.

The ideal candidate has strong embedded systems and control algorithm experience, knowledge of Li-ion chemistries, ISO 26262, and can write and test embedded C/C++ for BMS microcontrollers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop BMS hardware and software architectures for EV battery packs.
• Develop and implement algorithms for SoC and SoH estimation, cell balancing, and thermal management.
• Write and test embedded C/C++ code for BMS microcontrollers.
• Collaborate with battery cell suppliers, electrical engineers, and system integration teams.
• Perform detailed analysis of battery performance data and identify areas for improvement.
• Ensure BMS designs meet safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and performance requirements.
• Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and vehicle-level validation of BMS functionality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to battery pack performance and BMS operation.
• Stay current with advancements in battery technology and BMS trends.
