Job Title: EURēCA! Student Assistant in 3D Printing & Modeling
Job Location: CU AnschutzDepartment of Cell & Developmental Biology/Modern Human Anatomy Program/ This position can be flexible with some remote and some on-campus components.
Purpose: The scholarly work will include two major components:
1. Creation of new anatomical education and clinical simulation models. The student assistant will aid in the design and production of open access digital anatomical models for release to our Open Educational Resources (OER) hub. The student will also assist the lab manager in making open access clinical simulation models for use in UC Health.
2. Prototyping open access bioprinting methods. The student assistant will work with the MHA lab manager to design open access bioinks, experiment with novel bioprinting methods and designs, and ultimately produce a bioprinted prototype of a medical device requested by our clinical partners.
Position Description: As a 3D Printing & Modeling Lab Assistant, the student will work a small team of faculty & staff in the Modern Human Anatomy (MHA) Program at CU Anschutz to design and produce both physical and digital anatomical educational models. Models may include 3D printed organs, clinical simulation models, and prototypes combining human anatomy with engineering methods to provide increased capability to our educational and clinical partners. The student will also assist in converting a portfolio of existing learning modules into HTML for H5P, upload a collection of open access anatomical models to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) library, evaluate anatomical model survey data, and participate in outreach events occasionally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include: Assist lab manager with 3D design and prototyping, practice 3D printing with existing 3D models, convert learning modules into HTML, evaluate survey data, upload collection of 3D models to NIH library, organize and maintain digital asset database, provide presentations during outreach events, and presentation of work at local events throughout the year (i.e., Anschutz Block Party, MHA Virtual Info Sessions, Health Professions Fairs, Academy of Medical Educators Symposium, and RaCas).
Skills and Knowledge Gained:
The student will gain experience in a diverse set of skills including anatomy, 3D surface scanning, 3D modeling/CAD, 3D printing, chemical engineering, database management, program development, writing, community engagement, written communication, and oral communication. The student will also learn about creative commons licensing and online distribution of anatomical models.
