Role Summary
We are looking for a visionary Data Architect with deep domain expertise in Capital Markets and Asset Management. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and modernization of complex enterprise data ecosystems. You will act as the technical cornerstone for our client, bridging the gap between legacy ETL systems (IBM DataStage) and modern cloud-based analytics platforms (Azure, Databricks).
Because this role oversees end-to-end data product delivery, you will also collaborate closely with software engineering teams utilizing Java and React. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Data Engineering and Master Data Management (MDM), ensuring data integrity, scalability, and security across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Data Architecture: Design, build, and maintain highly scalable, secure, and robust data architectures tailored to the specific needs of the Capital Markets and Asset Management domains.
- Cloud & Big Data Strategy: Lead the migration and development of modern data platforms utilizing Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
- ETL Modernization: Architect and oversee complex ETL/ELT pipelines. Manage the integration, maintenance, and eventual modernization of legacy IBM DataStage workflows into modern cloud infrastructures.
- Master Data Management (MDM): Define and implement enterprise-level MDM strategies. Guide Data Engineering teams in building frameworks that ensure data quality, governance, and seamless data integration.
- End-to-End System Integration: Collaborate with full-stack and backend software engineering teams to ensure data models and pipelines integrate seamlessly with Java-based microservices and React-based user interfaces.
- Business Alignment: Partner closely with Northern Trust business stakeholders, translating complex financial business requirements into technical blueprints and actionable data solutions.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to data engineers, developers, and analysts, establishing best practices for data governance, coding, and architecture.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: 10+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 4+ years serving in a dedicated Data Architect capacity.
- Domain Knowledge: Deep, proven understanding of the Financial Services industry-specifically Capital Markets and Asset Management.
- Cloud & Analytics: Extensive hands-on experience designing architectures within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem and utilizing Databricks for big data processing and analytics.
- Data Integration: Strong background in complex ETL architecture, with specific, demonstrable experience using IBM DataStage.
- Data Engineering & MDM: Deep expertise in Data Engineering principles, data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical), and implementing Master Data Management (MDM) solutions.
- Programming Ecosystem: Solid architectural understanding of Java (for backend API/microservices integration).
Preferred Qualifications
- Front-End Familiarity: Understanding of React.js architecture to effectively collaborate with UI teams consuming data APIs.
- Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Databricks Certified Data Engineer/Architect.
- Agile Methodology: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments utilizing CI/CD pipelines for data products.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical executive stakeholders.
