Job description

We are looking for an experienced Ethanol Trader to join our proprietary trading operation in New York. This is a pure proprietary trading role. We are looking for people who can identify opportunities in the ethanol market, put capital to work and generate consistent risk-adjusted returns.

The role

You will have responsibility for developing and executing discretionary and/or systematic trading strategies across the US ethanol complex. We are interested in traders who can demonstrate an understanding of what actually moves the market and translate that understanding into profitable positions.

Areas of focus include:
  • Ethanol futures and derivatives
  • Ethanol cracks and spreads
  • Corn / ethanol relationships
  • Gasoline / ethanol relationships
  • Regional and calendar spreads
  • Basis and location-driven opportunities
  • Fundamental and relative-value strategies
  • Cross-commodity opportunities within the broader agricultural and energy complex

You will have direct ownership of trading decisions, position construction and day-to-day risk.

What you'll be doing
  • Develop and refine your own trading framework
  • Identify fundamental, technical and relative-value opportunities
  • Build positions around market dislocations and changing supply/demand dynamics
  • Trade futures, options and spreads as appropriate to your strategy
  • Manage exposure dynamically as market conditions change
  • Analyse ethanol production, inventories, blending demand, margins, feedstock economics and related market data
  • Develop views around regional flows, seasonality and market structure
  • Work with quantitative and technology resources to improve idea generation, modelling and execution
  • Own your trading book and its P&L
  • Continuously review what is working, what isn't and where the next source of edge may come from
We're particularly interested in people who have:
  • A proven track record of trading ethanol or related US energy/agricultural markets
  • Strong understanding of the US ethanol complex and its fundamental drivers
  • Experience trading spreads, relative value and/or outright risk
  • The ability to form an independent market view rather than simply follow consensus
  • A disciplined approach to position sizing and risk
  • Strong analytical instincts and an appetite for working with data
  • The confidence to act decisively when the setup is there — and stay out when it isn't
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and genuine desire to build a trading strategy

A quantitative background is useful, but we are not hiring for a coding title. If your edge is fundamentally driven and you know how to turn that edge into P&L, we want to hear from you.
