Prince William County Public Schools is seeking an ESY Mutual Instructor - SPED to provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities during Extended School Year. This temporary, part-time role requires in-person service, scheduling with families, and alignment with IEP goals.
Applicants must hold a VA teaching license with Special Education endorsement. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations is essential, along with data collection and progress reporting.
ESY MUTUAL INSTRUCTOR - SPED JOB STATUS: OPEN EFFECTIVE: 2026-27 POSTING NUMBER: 00060213 SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT: TITLE VI-B LOCATION: Prince William County,VA POSITION TITLE: ESY MUTUAL INSTRUCTOR - SPED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors: Knowledge of and adhere to federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.
REPORTS TO: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Current Licensed staff shall meet or exceed all performance standards.
Instructional candidates must hold a valid VA teaching license and Special Ed endorsement.  
Staff who recently retired and have not satisfied their bonified break in service, and Retirement Opportunity Participants who have not completed their ROP hours for the upcoming school year, are not eligible to be ESY Mutual Instructors. 
Teaching Professionals on Temporary Assignment (TPOTA) are not eligible to be ESY Mutual Instructors.
STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid VA teaching license withSpecial Ed endorsement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: DIMENSIONS: Positions are contingent upon sufficient student enrollment and program needs. An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work. Work locations are mutually agreed upon and may include the student’s home, the local library or other public space, or a school building with the approval and permission of the building administrator. The schedule of services is to be mutually agreed upon between the instructor and the student’s parent/guardian or adult student. Service times must occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK: Provides specially designed instruction to students in all areas specified by the IEP related to the provision of Extended School Year services. Utilizes assistive technology and specialized equipment. Maintains a system of record keeping and data collection following required procedures as outlined in the Special Education Manual. Other Duties as Assigned.
SALARY: Licensed temporary rate $46.50/instructional hour. $32/hour for non-instructional hours.
