Responsibilities

  • Consult with vendors and engineers to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Analyze plan documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Discuss changes with engineers, owners, and contractors to adjust cost estimates.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements for the duration of the project.
  • Develop cost monitoring and reporting systems for project tracking.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide on production options.
  • Assist estimating team to predict project timescales and costs.
  • Compute final tender price with overheads and profit.

Position Summary:

The primary objective of this role is to prepare cost estimates for underground construction projects.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Consult with vendors, personnel in other departments or construction superintendent/engineers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Analyze plan documents and other data to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components
  • Working with estimating team to help predict the timescales of a project, which has a considerable bearing on costs
  • Establishing the likely progress and completion rates, including allowances for bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances
  • Calculating a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit, and presenting a tender price
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is required or relevant work experience,
  • 5+ years of underground estimating experience required

Physical Demands

  • Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.
  • Ability to sit or stand for entire shift
  • Occasionally requited to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.
