Job summary

Cianbro is seeking an Estimator - Transmission to prepare proposals and estimates for transmission projects. You will review RFQs, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope, materials, quantities, and costs.

Responsibilities include taking off quantities, soliciting vendor pricing, coordinating with the project team, and ensuring estimates comply with client requirements, safety considerations, and company standards.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
• Minimum of three years of transmission estimating experience.
• Proficiency with scheduling and estimating software.

Responsibilities

• Develop a preliminary estimate plan and assess ability to meet RFP dates.
• Identify scope of work and perform quantity and cost takeoffs from RFQ information.
• Review plans and specs to ensure estimates meet client requirements.
• Perform conceptual estimates when detailed design information is unavailable.
• Work on multiple estimates concurrently.
• Solicit pricing from material vendors and subcontractors.
• Participate in larger estimates and contribute to overall estimate.
• Ensure estimates are complete and well organized for management review.
• Develop project schedules to meet owner requirements and optimize resources.
• Address safety risks and concerns in estimates.
• Develop innovative means to improve competitiveness and margins.
• Ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements.
• Assist in proposal technical information and basis of the proposal when required.
• Ensure proposals meet financial goals and contractual requirements.
• Maintain base bid documents and organize estimate information per protocols.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams on means and methods.
• Coordinate with production for successful bids and transitions.
• Assist in budgets and monitor contract changes on proposals.
• Perform additional duties as required.

The Estimator - Transmission is responsible for the preparation of proposals and estimates for transmission projects. This individual will review pertinent requests, specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents to estimate materials specificity, quantity, and cost.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop a preliminary estimate plan and assess the ability to meet RFP dates.
• Independently identify the scope of work and perform specificity, quantity, and cost takeoff from RFQ information.
• Review available plans and specifications to ensure the estimate is in compliance with client requirements.
• Perform conceptual estimates at times when detailed design information is not yet available.
• Work on multiple estimates concurrently.
• Solicit pricing from material vendors and subcontractors.
• Participate as a member of a team on larger estimates and contribute to the overall estimate.
• Ensure that estimates are complete, well organized, and ready for review by management.
• Develop project schedules to ensure that projects can be completed to meet the owner's requirements and that company resources are utilized efficiently.
• Ensure that estimates address all potential safety risks and concerns.
• Develop innovative means and methods for completion of projects to increase our competitiveness and project margins.
• Ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements.
• Play a key part during the preparation of proposal technical information, and develop the basis of the proposal, when required.
• Ensure that proposals meet company and regional financial goals and that contractual requirements of the project are acceptable.
• Maintain base bid documents and organize estimate information per company protocols.
• Assist the project team by providing technical guidance on the project delivery in terms of means and methods for successful bids, and continue this support for the duration of the project on smaller jobs.
• Coordinate with the production team on successful bids to provide a thorough transition to the project team.
• Assist in the development of project budgets and monitoring contract changes on successful proposals.
• Perform additional duties, as required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Engineering degree or equivalent experience in a technical field and/or related experience.
• Minimum of three years of transmission estimating experience.
• Requires strong computer skills, familiarity with scheduling and estimating software (HCSS) and MS Office.
• Conceptual estimating skills.
