Job summary

A leading construction firm based in Appleton, Wisconsin is seeking a passionate Estimator to independently develop cost estimates for solar and wind construction projects. The role involves reviewing plans, conducting material takeoffs, and interfacing with stakeholders to gather pricing information. The ideal candidate will have a BS/BA in Engineering or a related field, and 3-5 years of relevant experience in the electrical construction industry is preferred. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) and medical coverage.

Job description

About this Role – Estimator

We are looking for a talented Estimator who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for independently developing cost estimates and resource requirements for solar & wind construction projects throughout the region.

What You’ll Do
  • Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project
  • Analyze time, equipment, tooling, material and manpower requirements for each project
  • Perform material takeoffs and develop a written estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications
  • Provide the Director of Operations with a detailed cost estimate, corresponding proposal letter and bid form breakout and take over ownership of the project
  • Interface with customers, vendors and subcontractors to determine the cost of the project
  • Gather information to determine subcontractor and vendor suitability and aggressively gain the best pricing
  • Visit customer field locations as required to ascertain project conditions
  • Attend pre and post bid meetings as required and be able to effectively present information to clients to sell our projects
  • Select pool of potential subcontractors and equipment vendors to solicit their proposals
  • Analyze special safety and code requirements on all projects
  • Work as part of an integrated Operations and Estimating team in acquiring projects
  • Properly turns over bid documents to Operations in a timely manner

  • 3-5 years of estimating, project management and craft supervision experience in the industrial and commercial electrical construction industry training (Preferred)
