Job summary

CRH is seeking an Estimator-Project Manager in Idaho Falls to calculate material, equipment, and labor needs, create budgets, and coordinate with DOT, Federal Highway, and municipal projects. This role supports the Estimating Manager in cross-functional coordination and project planning.

Ideal candidates will have 3–7 years of construction estimating and management experience, with proficiency in estimating and takeoff software and the ability to read blueprints and contracts.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with technical training.
  • 3–7 years construction experience with DOT, Federal Highway and municipalities.
  • 3–7 years of construction estimating experience.
  • 3–7 years of construction management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares detailed estimates by completing takeoff, using past cost history, and conferring with field personnel.
  • Maintains files of working documents and supplier price data for estimate figures.
  • Prepare detailed reports and communicate bid details to field personnel on bids that are awarded.
  • Review design options and recommend cost-effective solutions based on materials availability.
  • Follow OSHA/MSHA regulations and company policies; report problems to Estimating Manager and Safety/HR Managers.
  • Lead estimator on large projects and coordinate with team to ensure timely delivery.

Position Overview

The Estimator-Project Manager position is responsible for using a combination of past experiences and project specifications to accurately project the amount of materials, equipment, and man hours that must be utilized to complete a given project. Based upon these calculations, they create a project budget that is then presented to Management. All necessary details must meet not only legal but also company policies and guidelines. This role will assist the Estimating Manager in coordinating DOT, Federal Highway and Municipality work within the department.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)
  • Prepares detailed estimates by completing takeoff, using past cost history, and conferring with field personnel.
  • Maintains files of working documents as a backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Prepare detailed reports, and information packets and communicate all aspects of the bid to field personnel on bids that are awarded.
  • May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality of availability of materials.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and the environment. Report any problems to the Estimating Manager, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager
  • Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline.
  • Independently estimate large-sized projects within $1 million to $25 million dollar range.
  • Lead estimator on projects of $25 million dollars or greater with team.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience.
  • Three to seven years of construction experience with DOT, Federal Highway and city and state municipalities.
  • Three to seven years of construction estimating experience.
  • Three to seven years experience with construction management.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Experience with estimating software, B2W, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Experience with Takeoff software.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with estimating and bidding software.
  • Experience with CADD files.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
  • Skills needed include leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and organization.
  • Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors, and internal and external customers.
General Requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Work Requirements
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
Physical Requirements
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
