Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking an Estimator to prepare estimates for commercial and industrial projects, collaborating with project teams to ensure cost accuracy. This on-site role requires travel to project locations across the United States.

You will perform quantity take-offs, read contract documents, and price information for bids. Responsibilities include soliciting bids from subs, assisting with bid proposals and outline schedules, and supporting staff on special estimating tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 2 years in estimating commercial/industrial construction, with hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Industry experience is highly preferred; project sizes around $20M+ are common.

• Prepares estimates for potential projects using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specs & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in areas such as general conditions, bid analysis, and takeoffs.
• Assists with bid proposals and outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Supports staff on special estimating projects and related duties.

Summary

An Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

• Prepares estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 2 year experience in estimating commercial and/or industrial construction projects, showing competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
• Relevant experience is going to be highly preferred
• Project size will be considered; ideally $20M or greater
• Local or open to relocation to either area
