Job summary

Layton Construction in Utah is seeking an Estimator to prepare project estimates across hard-bid, design-build and conceptual work, ensuring cost accuracy with the project team.

Responsibilities include reading contract documents, performing quantity take-offs, pricing information, and soliciting bids from subs; assisting with bid proposals and project scheduling while supporting staff on special estimating projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent.
• At least 2 years experience in estimating commercial/industrial projects, including hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Experience with projects around $20M+ preferred.
• Willingness to relocate to either area.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret contract documents, plans, specs and addenda.
• Perform quantity take-offs, organize and price information.
• Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicate pricing with subs and suppliers to clarify details.
• Prepare estimate formats including general conditions, bidding, takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assist with bid proposal preparation.
• Prepare outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assist staff on special estimating projects.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

An Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepares estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 2 year experience in estimating commercial and/or industrial construction projects, showing competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
• Relevant experience is going to be highly preferred
• Project size will be considered; ideally $20M or greater
• Local or open to relocation to either area
