Job summary

Calmax Technology in Santa Clara, CA is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. The role focuses on RFQ handling, data gathering, and producing reliable cost estimates for manufacturing and engineering projects.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering to assess readiness, determine labor and material needs, and evaluate whether to make or buy components. The position requires GD&T interpretation and strong pricing knowledge.

Qualifications

• A BS in Business or 5–10 years of experience in purchasing, estimating, machine shop.
• Must interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Advanced knowledge of pricing and materials for CNC programming, milling and lathe machining.

Responsibilities

• Manage RFQ inquiries, review quotes, and gather information to begin estimation (drawings, material pricing, component pricing).
• Review blueprints, specifications, and data to determine material and labor requirements.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering to assess readiness and provide accurate estimates to customers.
• Estimate labor, material, processing and other costs based on RFQ data.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for planning, bids and vendor selection.
• Review material and labor to decide whether to make or buy components.

Job description

We have an immediate opening for an experienced Estimator to join our company in Santa Clara, CA.

Estimator Responsibilities

• Manages customer request for quotation (RFQ) inquires, reviews quotes, and collects the necessary information to begin an estimation such as: drawings, material pricing, component pricing, and outside cost pricing
• Reviews customer blue prints, specifications, and all relevant data to determine material and labor requirements
• Collaborates with the Manufacturing and Engineering departments to assess the company’s readiness to perform product design and provides accurate and realistic estimates to customers
• Estimates labor, material, processing, and other costs of manufacturing/engineering based on the request for proposal data submitted by customers
• Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for planning, organizing, scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors and determining cost effectiveness
• Reviews material and labor requirements to determine whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components

Education/Experience

• A. /B.S. in Business OR 5 – 10 years of experience in purchasing, estimating, machine shop environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Qualifications

• Must interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
• Advanced knowledge of pricing and materials needed to complete CNC programming, manual machining, mill, and lathe machining activities
• Understanding of the processes and delivery lead times required for manufacturing parts
• Extremely detail-oriented and thorough in making sure all contractual obligations at time of RFQ are understood and accounted for
