Job summary

Gerber Collision & Glass is seeking an Estimator Apprentice to train alongside our Estimator, learning to diagnose and prepare precise repair estimates per company guidelines. You will communicate value to customers and support insurance partners to drive a high closing rate.

You’ll map damage, capture photos, coordinate with production, and keep customers updated on estimates and promise dates while contributing in production meetings and process improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 16 I-CAR units must be completed within the first 12 months of employment.
• Prior customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customer at repair drop off and build rapport.
• Map damage with customer (previous, current loss, WOW opportunities).
• Prepare and finalize repair estimates using the Repair Planning Template.
• Coordinate with repair team to ensure windshield notations are correct and complete.
• Input photos and notes into CCC One, with arrival time and other details.
• Notify production that the vehicle has arrived and place it in production queue.
• Review and verify estimates during teardown and adjust as needed.
• Call customers to review estimates and promised completion dates.
• Assist insurance adjusters with damage reports and liaise with claim inspectors.
• Participate in regularly scheduled production meetings and provide updates.

Job Description

The Estimator in Training works closely with our Estimator to learn how to effectively diagnose and prepare all estimates for repair in an accurate, thorough, and profitable manner according to insurance partner and company guidelines. Additionally, the Estimator Apprentice is responsible for communicating the value Gerber provides, resulting in a high closed sales ratio.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Ensure consistent execution of WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan.
• Greets customer at repair drop off and builds rapport.
• Maps damage with customer (previous, current loss, WOW opportunities).
• Handles repair mapping, takes initial photographs.
• Uploads photos and notes to CCC One, along with arrival time, etc.
• Notifies production that vehicle has arrived and places in production queue.
• Verifies estimate during teardown.
• Finalizes estimate using proper Repair Planning Template.
• Works with repair team to make sure notations on windshield are correct and complete.
• Puts together final parts list.
• Uses Promise Date Calculator to set promise date.
• Calls customer to review estimate and promise date.
• Updates customer regularly (with frequency, according to standards determined by management).
• Participates in and contributes to the regularly scheduled production meetings.
• Calls customers whose cars will be completed the next day and schedules with customer.
• Follows up with technicians after vehicle tear down and makes adjustments to estimate if needed.
• Assists insurance adjusters with damage reports, etc., and provides service to insurance claim re‑inspectors.

Education and/or Experience Required

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Prior customer service experience.
• Must currently possess or successfully complete 16 I‑CAR units within the first 12 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4–6 years related work experience.
• Photo‑imaging software experience preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent communication skills.
• Computer literate.
• Knowledge of Microsoft products is preferred.
• Good decision‑making ability and sound judgment.

Other Requirements

• Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, kneel and crouch in providing an accurate estimate of a vehicle’s damage.
• Must possess clear vision in providing an accurate estimate of a vehicle’s damage.

Compensation

$18.00–$20.00 per hour depending on experience.
