Job summary

Sundt Construction is seeking an Estimator I/II in the preconstruction group. This developmental role supports bid efforts and team-based pricing for large projects or multiple smaller ones, while gaining expertise in conceptual estimating, project logistics, and indirect costs.

Ideal candidates have a four-year engineering degree, are proficient with MS Office, and may pursue LEED accreditation to enhance project opportunities within Sundt's collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Four year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
• LEED accreditation preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Accurately performs quantity takeoff.
• Assist in pricing project logistics including hoisting and temporary elements.
• Develop abstracts and evaluate basic trade bids.
• Understand indirect costs such as insurance, taxes, and fees.
• Develop pricing for basic project elements and assist in preparing estimating deliverables.
• Draft subcontracts and purchase orders for review by senior personnel.
• Provide document control for assigned projects.
• Solicit pricing for projects in the hard bid environment.
• Support conceptual estimating efforts and develop basic models for review.
• Develop budget uploads and purchasing plans with oversight.

Job Summary

Estimator I and II titles are developmental positions within the preconstruction department. The El/Ell provides support for single large projects or multiple smaller projects. Primary duties include participation in bid efforts, working with teams on Design Build and CM at Risk delivery methods, and providing administrative support to the estimating department. The El/Ell is expected to be competent in basic estimating tasks and is developing an understanding of more advanced estimating principals including conceptual estimating, project logistics, and indirect costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately performs quantity takeoff.
• Assists in the pricing of project logistics, including hoisting, personnel lifts, and temporary construction elements.
• Develops abstracts and competently evaluates basic trade bids.
• Develops basic understanding of indirect costs, including insurance, taxes, and fees.
• Develops pricing for basic project elements and assists in the preparation of key estimating deliverables.
• Drafts subcontracts and purchase orders for review by senior personnel.
• Provides document control (sub lists, distribution of plans, addenda, etc.) for assigned projects.
• Solicits pricing for projects in the hard bid environment.
• Supports conceptual estimating efforts within the department, including development of basic models for review by senior personnel.
• With oversight from senior personnel, develops budget uploads and purchasing plans.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Experience levels for positions are as follows:
  • Estimator I: 1-3 years of experience
  • Estimator II: 2-5 years of experience.
• Four year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
• Preferred candidates will have obtained their LEED accreditation, or express willingness to obtain.
• Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
