Job summary

Keystone Distinction Group in Arizona is seeking an experienced Estimator for Water/Wastewater and Heavy Civil Construction to prepare accurate cost, time, and labor projections from blueprints and specifications. The role emphasizes precision, collaboration with engineers, clients, and subcontractors, and contributing to competitive bids.

You will participate in site visits, analyze documents, and help shape bid strategy while upholding safety policies.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or water/wastewater construction.
  • Strong math, geometry, blueprint reading, and construction technology.
  • Proficiency in evaluating project data and applying cost and productivity factors.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Skilled in preparing clear, competitive bid proposals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, regulations, and cost control.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and estimating software.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and documents to prepare detailed time, material, and labor estimates.
  • Evaluate cost-effectiveness of proposed projects and track actual costs against estimates.
  • Conduct special studies to establish standard costs and identify savings opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, owners, and subcontractors on changes and value engineering.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and field teams to clarify project details.
  • Review material and labor requirements and prepare itemized bidding lists.
  • Prepare estimates for management decisions including scheduling, vendor selection, and bid strategy.
  • Participate in site visits before and during construction to validate field conditions.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development by preparing competitive proposals.
  • Attend weekly management meetings to review workload and bid strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate and competitive cost, time, and labor estimates. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, clients, and subcontractors throughout all stages of project development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and documents to prepare detailed time, material, and labor estimates.

  • Evaluate cost-effectiveness of proposed projects and track actual costs against estimates during execution.

  • Conduct special studies to establish standard costs and identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements.

  • Collaborate with engineers, owners, and subcontractors to discuss changes, value engineering options, and adjustments to estimates.

  • Consult with clients, vendors, and field teams to clarify project details and resolve cost-related concerns.

  • Review material and labor requirements, preparing comprehensive itemized lists for bidding and project planning.

  • Prepare estimates used for management decision-making—including scheduling, planning, vendor selection, and bid strategies.

  • Participate in site visits before and during construction to validate field conditions.

  • Contribute to marketing and business development efforts by preparing professional, competitive proposals.

  • Attend weekly management meetings to review workload, bid strategy, and ongoing estimates.

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and promote a safety-first culture across all estimating activities.

  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or water/wastewater construction.

  • Strong background in mathematics, geometry, blueprint reading, and construction technology.

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record.

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering required.

  • Equivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
