Job summary

AlphaX seeks an experienced Commercial Estimator in Austin for interior construction estimates across drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, and flooring. You will review drawings, prepare detailed takeoffs, and oversee bid submissions from start to handoff.

Responsibilities include evaluating subcontractor bids, identifying scope gaps, and driving cost-optimized solutions while maintaining quality. A strong sense of deadlines and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial estimating experience in drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, flooring, or related interior construction trades.
• Direct experience estimating interior commercial projects from review through bid.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and bid documents with strong cost discipline.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, flooring, and interior construction projects.
• Review drawings, specs, contracts, addenda, and bid documents to determine project scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Identify scope gaps, design discrepancies, exclusions, and cost risks.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor quotes, compare proposals, and verify scope coverage.
• Calculate material quantities, labor costs, equipment expenses, and overall project pricing.
• Prepare bid proposals with pricing, scope, exclusions, and alternatives.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
• Coordinate with PMs, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, GC, and clients to clarify scope and pricing.
• Maintain estimating databases, historical costs, vendor data, and bid docs.
• Assist with budgets, negotiated proposals, change orders, and bid revisions.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews.
• Prepare cost breakdowns and scope docs for awarded handoffs.
• Manage multiple bids and ensure timely, accurate estimates.
• Improve estimating processes and pricing accuracy.

• 3+ years of commercial estimating experience in drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, flooring, or related interior construction trades.
• Direct commercial interior construction estimating experience required.
• Strong knowledge of drywall installation, metal stud framing, acoustical ceilings, flooring, and interior construction methods.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
• Hands-on experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates.
• Experience evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids and identifying scope discrepancies.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar estimating software.
• Strong understanding of construction labor rates, material pricing, subcontractor costs, and equipment expenses.
• Excellent mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and competing deadlines.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Degree or formal education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
