Job description

As a member of our Preconstruction team – most of whom have been with the firm for decades – you will play a key role in developing detailed cost estimates from the earliest conceptual stages through completed construction documents, helping clients and project teams align scope, budget, and expectations. Based in our Winchester office this full‑time position offers the opportunity to work and grow alongside experienced industry professionals while building your own career path. Responsibilities
  • Review drawings, specifications, and narratives to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns.
  • Develop conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates with clear assumptions and inclusions.
  • Assist in soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness and competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with design teams and internal staff to clarify scope gaps and identify constructability issues.
  • Maintain organized estimate clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and design development logs.
  • Assist with value engineering analyses to identify cost‑saving alternatives and design efficiencies.
  • Utilize and/or update cost databases, labor rates, and subcontractor pricing information.
  • Support development of bid summaries, proposal narratives, and GMP packages.
  • Collaborate with project controls to align cost, schedule, and contingency assumptions.
  • Assist in presentations and pursuit deliverables for new business opportunities.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of estimating experience within the commercial construction industry or related.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, assemblies, and construction sequencing.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (Onscreen, ACC, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Facility with AI based quantity survey or estimating tools desired.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, perform takeoffs, and communicate cost impacts clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with GMP, design‑assist, and negotiated delivery methods preferred.

At the time of posting this job advertisement, the annual pay salary range for this position in Boston is between$120,000 and $140,000.
