Job summary

McKissack & McKissack in the DMV area seeks an experienced Estimator to join our team and support cost planning across engineering and construction projects. You will analyze documents, prepare estimates, and coordinate with suppliers and subs to ensure bids reflect client budgets and project requirements.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, 8+ years of estimating experience, and proficiency with RSMeans or Primavera.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
• 8+ years of complex estimating experience on engineering/construction projects.
• 6+ years using RSMeans, Primavera, or similar estimating and scheduling tools.
• Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
• Experience supervising subcontractors.
• Familiarity with contract terms and negotiation practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, and documents to determine estimated costs.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
• Assist with bid proposals and contracts, including contingencies.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors for quotes.
• Ensure estimates align with client budgets and project scope.
• Identify estimating risks and mitigation measures.
• Maintain records of estimates, bids, and related documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to align estimates.
• Track actual costs against estimates and suggest cost-saving measures.
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and validate estimates.
• Perform other responsibilities as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to determine estimated costs for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates by assessing the quantities and costs of materials, labor, and equipment required .
• Assist with bid proposals and contracts, ensuring all necessary costs and contingencies are included.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain quotes and pricing for materials and services.
• Ensure estimates align with the client's budget and support the development of project budgets.
• Identify potential estimating risks and recommend mitigation measures during the preconstruction and estimation phases.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and related project documentation for future reference.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and constraints.
• Track actual project costs against estimates and recommend cost-saving measures when appropriate .
• Conduct site visits as needed to assess existing conditions and validate estimates.
• Perform other responsibilities associated with the position as appropriate .

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Minimum of eight years of related experience performing complex estimating activities for engineering and construction projects or programs.
• Minimum of six years of experience using estimating database-supported software, such as RSMeans , Primavera scheduling software, or other estimating and scheduling transfer tools.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to produce accurate estimates.
• Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and industry standards.
• Experience managing or overseeing subcontractors.
• Familiarity with contract terms and negotiation practices.

Salary range

$115,000 - $130,000/yearly (dependent on years of experience, competency, travel requirements)
