Job summary

Ridout Lumber and Meek’s, a division of US LBM Holdings, LLC, is seeking an Estimator to prepare material estimates for residential construction. You will use computer tools and math to forecast materials in accordance with company policy and local codes.

You’ll assist sales staff with orders, read blueprints, and support contractors throughout project take-offs, while helping train others in estimating techniques and ensuring cost control within budget.

Qualifications

• Must read blueprints and technical materials.
• Interpret building plans from diagrams with abstract and concrete variables.
• Read and operate networked computer systems and estimation software.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of measurements and basic math.

Responsibilities

• Estimate materials needed for home construction per policy and local code.
• Assist salesmen with customer orders and material lists.
• Assist in trim take-offs as requested.
• Provide contractor support as needed.
• Train sales representatives in estimating techniques.

• Review actual vs estimated materials on project completion.

A Brief Overview

The Estimator uses computer technology and mathematical skill to prepare an estimation of the amount of material needed for the construction of a home in accordance with Company policies.

What you will do

• Estimate the amount of materials needed for home construction according to company policy and local building code.
• Assist salesmen as needed with customer orders and materials lists.
• Assist in trim take-offs as requested.
• Provide assistance to contractors as needed.
• Train sales representatives in estimating techniques.
• Assist sales staff with blueprint reading and construction procedures.
• Review actual vs. estimated materials on completion of each project.
• Work on sales/ hardware counter as assigned.
• Control expenditures to conform to company budgetary requirements.

Education Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in engineering or related area required.

Experience Qualifications

• 1-3 years construction and building materials related experience required.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read blueprints and other technical materials.
• Ability to interpret building plans in diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to operate networked computer systems and specialized software application programs and to instruct others in effective use of application software.
• Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of measurements and basic math principles.
