Job summary

The Building Envelope Estimator at BMF Corporation in Raleigh, NC, will prepare accurate estimates for glazing and metal panel projects by reviewing drawings, taking-offs, and compiling complete cost proposals. You will solicit vendor quotes and support preconstruction planning with project teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in glazing or metal panel systems.
  • Strong understanding of curtainwall, storefront, window wall, ACM/IMP/plate panel systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
  • Proficient with take-off and estimating software (Bluebeam, Excel, or equivalent) and related tools.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple bids.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Perform take-offs for curtainwall, storefront, window wall, ACM/IMP/plate panels, and related scopes.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor/subcontractor pricing and material quotes.
  • Prepare cost breakdowns, proposals, and bid documentation for review by leadership.
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternatives.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to support preconstruction planning.
  • Monitor market pricing, material costs, and industry trends.
  • Maintain bid files and estimating tools; participate in bid reviews.

Job description

The Building Envelope Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for glazing and metal panel projects. This role involves reviewing drawings, analyzing specifications, performing take-offs, soliciting vendor quotes, and developing complete cost proposals. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience estimating glazing or metal panel scopes within the commercial construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and addenda to prepare accurate estimates
  • Perform detailed take-offs for curtainwall, storefront, window wall, ACM panels, IMPs, and plate systems amongst other building envelope scopes
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor/subcontractor pricing and material quotes
  • Prepare cost breakdowns, proposals, and supporting bid documentation for review by VP of Estimating and President prior to bid
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternatives
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to support preconstruction planning
  • Monitor market pricing, material costs, and industry trends
  • Maintain organized bid files, historical pricing, and estimating tools
  • Participate in bid reviews, scope meetings, and project handoff meetings

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in glazing or metal panel systems
  • Strong understanding of curtainwall, storefront, window wall, ACM/IMP/plate panel systems, or related architectural envelope components
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
  • Proficient with take-off and estimating software (Bluebeam, Excel, or equivalent) as well as glazier studio and partner pak
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Construction or engineering background preferred
