Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review project drawings and specs to prepare detailed estimates.
  • Analyze blueprints and documents to determine scope and material requirements.

  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.

Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for calculating the total costs of construction projects, from initial concept to completion, by assessing labor, materials, equipment, and other costs associated with the project. This role requires close collaboration with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to produce accurate and competitive cost estimates. The Estimator will also be responsible for receiving bids, analyzing drawings, and specifications, and supporting the preconstruction process. Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and an in-depth understanding of construction processes are critical in this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed estimates for construction projects.
  • Analyze blueprints, designs, and other documents to determine project scope and material requirements.
  • Identify potential risks and factors that may affect project costs and timeline, providing accurate adjustments, as needed.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns that include labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
  • Prepare bid packages and submit bids in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Work closely with project managers, designers, and construction teams to ensure that estimates align with project goals and timelines.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and material availability.
  • Engage with clients, architects, and engineers to discuss project specifications, scope changes, and pricing adjustments.
  • Perform value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.

  • Regularly update and refine cost databases based on historical project performance and industry trends.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed and organized documentation for estimating processes and proposals.
  • Maintain compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years experience as an Estimator in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and labor costs.
  • Proficient in construction estimating software (e.g. Procore, Buildertrend, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to jobsites, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel and walk through active constructive sites regularly.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
