Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking an Estimator to participate in the bid/estimating process—from plan/spec review to subcontractor pricing and GMP budgeting. Based in Los Angeles or San Diego, you will perform quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping, and bid development.

You will work with architects/consultants, assist with final estimate assembly, and support post-bid documentation while advancing estimating technology and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related major.
• Construction estimating internship experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes.
• Working knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as OST, MC2, QTO and BIM related software.
• Strong math and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs quantity take-offs.
• Assists in the pricing and bidding of construction projects.
• Communicates with architects and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements, and documents these clarifications.
• Conducts reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities.
• Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
• Assists with final assembly of estimate for presentation to owner.
• After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
• Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
• Directs, coordinates and provides information and documents to subcontractors.
• Prepares contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts.
• Participates in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting activities by soliciting subcontractor support and evaluating bids.
• Builds relationships with subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
• Attends industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.
• Builds and maintains relationships with internal McCarthy clients.
• Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques.
• Implements all applicable Safety Programs and EEO/Affirmative Action Programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Estimators position establishes the fundamental principles for an individuals growth and success within McCarthys Preconstruction career path. On a daily basis you will participate in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from review of plans and specs to soliciting and negotiating prices from subcontractors/suppliers through completion of bid/estimating efforts including closeout. For Southern California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $90,000-$115,000. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
