Job summary

Davis H. Elliot is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join our team in Lexington, KY to prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical and telecommunications construction projects, working closely with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and clients.

The ideal candidate will read drawings and specs, perform takeoffs, analyze costs and risks, maintain estimating databases, and ensure bids are competitive and submitted on time.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of estimating, project management, or construction experience.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and contracts.
• Knowledge of electrical/telecom construction methods and practices.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to manage multiple bids.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for electrical/telecom projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts and bid documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and labor calculations using estimating software.
• Analyze costs, risks and opportunities to develop competitive bids.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost histories and pricing information.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations.
• Develop project scopes, clarifications, and proposal packages.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits.
• Collaborate with operations during turnover and pre-construction activities.

Job Description

Davis H. Elliot is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of electrical and telecommunications construction projects. Working closely with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and clients, you will play a critical role in securing successful projects and supporting operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for residential, commercial, industrial, utility, and infrastructure projects.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and labor calculations using estimating software.
• Analyze project requirements, costs, risks, and opportunities to develop competitive bids.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing information.
• Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Develop project scopes, clarifications, and proposal packages.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews.
• Collaborate with operations and project management teams during project turnover and pre-construction activities.
• Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within established deadlines.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating, project management, or construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Working knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• Experience estimating electrical or telecommunications construction projects.
• Experience with estimating software, including Accubid or similar platforms.
