Job summary

Milestone Contractors in Indianapolis is seeking an Estimator to generate quotes and pursue new business opportunities within assigned markets. The estimator analyzes blueprints, specifications and other docs to prepare quotes and estimates, computes cost factors, and prepares budgets and schedules for work.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, 3+ years in heavy highway, civil, asphalt paving, or bridge construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 3+ years in Heavy Highway/Civil/Asphalt Paving/Bridge construction or related field.
• PE license is preferred; Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Generates quotes and develops estimates from project documents.
• Analyzes blueprints, specs, proposals to prepare quotes and estimates.
• Computes cost factors and prepares budgets and schedules.
• Ensures estimates meet company and regulatory expectations.
• Establishes relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
• Uses job costing and creates purchase orders and subcontracts.
• Reviews billings, change orders, and job cost reports.
• Communicates with internal and external customers.

The Estimator generates estimates and new business opportunities within assigned markets

Essential Functions

• Generates and develops quotes

• Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare quotes/estimates

• Computes various cost factors

• Prepares budgets and schedules for work

• Ensures all estimates meet or exceed company and customer’s expectations, as well as regulatory requirements

• Develops beneficial business relationships

• Develops good working relationships with vendors, subcontractors, clients and INDOT personnel

• Develops a network and contacts within the community

• Performs day-to-day estimating tasks

• Sets up jobs in job costing

• Generates purchase orders and subcontractor agreements

• Reviews billings, prepares change orders and job cost reports

• Communicates with internal/external customers

• Answers inquiries via phone, email or in-person

• Provides highest levels of customer service

• Makes presentations to large and small groups

• Translates technical information into easily understood language

• Promotes and maintains safe work environment

• Exhibits safe work behaviors

• Wears all prescribed PPE

• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications

• Required Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction management or related field

Experience Qualifications

• Required 3+ years in Heavy Highway/Civil/Asphalt Paving/Bridge construction or related field preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Clerical office environment
• Indoor lab conditions that include standard office equipment such as computers, photocopier, phone, filing cabinets, fax machines, cubicles
• Sits at a desk regularly
• Looks at a computer screen 8 hours a day
• Performs data entry, alpha and 10-key numeric, on a keyboard
• Uses copy/fax to scan documents
• Drives a motor vehicle
• May lift or move up to 10lbs
• Regular travel to job sites, customer sites, and corporate offices around the state is required; mostly day trips, but some overnight travel may be required
