Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Read and comprehend contract documents, specs, scopes, drawings to prepare accurate project cost estimates.
  • Accurately take off material quantities from drawings to develop pricing.
  • Assemble scoped RFPs for vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and analyze proposals.
  • Prepare schedules for proposal submission.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site walk-downs to understand scope and constraints.
  • Consult with clients and vendors to discuss estimates and resolve issues; escort subcontractors for pricing.
  • Attend post-bid reviews and project kickoff meetings with owners.
  • Participate in in-house turnover meetings from estimating to project management.
  • Estimate costs associated with safety and location-specific work rules.
  • Participate in bid review and scope review meetings; explain scopes, costs, assumptions, methods to upper management.
  • Utilize historical cost data to develop cost estimates.
  • Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
  • Document and communicate actions and needs to maintain continuity among teams.
  • Support team by assisting other estimators as needed.
  • Prepare detailed breakdowns of cost estimates for review.
  • Write narratives describing work plans for final proposals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Read and comprehend all contract documents, specs, scopes, drawings, and standards to prepare accurate project cost estimates.
  • Accurately take off material quantities from drawings to develop material and labor pricing.
  • Assemble scoped RFPs for vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing, then analyze, compare, and select best‑value proposals for inclusion in cost estimates.
  • Prepare schedules for proposal submission.
  • Attend pre‑bid meetings and site walk‑downs to understand project scope, conditions, restrictions, and physical constraints.
  • Consult clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues; escort subcontractors on site visits to obtain accurate pricing.
  • Attend post‑bid reviews and project kick‑off meetings with owners as needed.
  • Participate in in‑house project turnover meetings from estimating to project management.
  • Understand and appropriately estimate the costs associated with safety and other project‑location specific work rules.
  • Participate in bid review and scope review meetings; explain project scopes, estimated costs, assumptions, and methods to upper management for approval.
  • Utilize historical cost data to develop cost estimates.
  • Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
  • Maintain continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Support team effort by accomplishing related results and helping other estimators as needed.
  • Prepare detailed break‑downs of cost estimates that facilitate review and understanding.
  • Write narratives describing work plans and flows for inclusion into final proposals.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirement
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field, OR minimum of 5 years of experience in Estimating or Project Controls in lieu of a degree.
  • 5–10 years of field experience in industrial and power construction.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
