Job summary

Iron Woman Construction and Environmental Services LLC. is looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team in Centennial, Colorado. The Estimator will manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large civil and utility projects, particularly within the Denver Metropolitan Area.

Job description

Iron Woman Construction and Environmental Services LLC. have an immediate opening for an experienced Estimator with a background in civil construction, focusing on Wet Utilities (Water, Sewer, Storm Sewer). The Estimator will be based in our Denver, Colorado (Centennial) office and manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large civil and utility projects, centering around site development and municipal infrastructure projects throughout the Denver Metropolitan Area. As an estimator, you will also be involved in planning, development, negotiation, and contract execution of the projects.

Responsibilities
  • Research and track new bidding opportunities within the company’s primary and secondary markets.
  • Review project plans and specifications to determine the nature and scope of projects.
  • Engage in strategic alliance with operations to develop win strategy and lead the bid team.
  • Evaluate different owner contract delivery models, to identify how each impacts costs and resources (i.e., Preconstruction Services) and apply appropriate strategies.
  • Lead the estimate procedure from strategy review through bid closing and submission.
  • Work with the production team throughout preconstruction to review plans and specifications for constructability, identify opportunities for value‑engineered cost savings, competitive differentiation, and overall project understanding.
  • Create, maintain, and manage the preconstruction and estimate schedule.
  • Analyze design criteria and recommend best options based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability to quantify and mitigate risk.
  • Perform timely and accurate project take‑offs.
  • Perform thorough pre‑bid site investigations (visit sites), participate in pre‑proposal meetings, clarify scope, prepare RFIs, and fully understand site specifications.
  • Utilize Bid2Win estimating software to build the project estimate.
  • Utilize MS Project to prepare bid schedules to determine resource demands and project risks.
  • Assemble the most accurate cost by assigning crews, productions, schedules, materials, and subcontracting opportunities using past experience and cost history.
  • Formulate contingency plans and manage risks that might impact cost and time estimates.
  • Coordinate bid communications with owner, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers on bid status.
  • Perform subcontract and vendor proposal reviews to ensure all scope gaps are recognized and addressed.
  • Identify, solicit, and obtain appropriate MWBE/DBE partners during bid process; ensure project goals are met.
  • Assemble a complete and accurate bid package for review. Lead project bid review and ensure agreed changes are reflected in final estimate.
  • Assist the Divisional Vice President, President, and CEO in establishing project margin.
  • Manage final bid package through delivery and/or bid submission.
  • Keep track of the latest estimating technology and industry techniques.
  • Perform all duties while maintaining company values, ethics, and full compliance with company processes and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in estimating civil construction, underground utilities, site development.
  • Minimum of 2 years in estimating positions on projects valued more than $2 million.
  • 4‑year engineering or construction degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam) and estimating software such as B2W.
  • Highly productive and willing to manage a busy work schedule independently.
  • Excellent communication, research, proposal writing, and oral presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of construction production rates is helpful.
  • Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders.
