Job summary

Graham Construction, a 3G Company, is seeking an Estimator to join our Cedar Rapids, IA, office to support commercial construction estimates and preconstruction efforts.

You will develop conceptual budgets, perform quantity takeoffs, review costs, solicit bids, and collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and trade partners to ensure accurate, competitive estimates and successful project handoffs.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
• A minimum of 2–4 years of construction estimating experience.
• Experience with Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Modelogix, and Bluebeam preferred.
• Understanding of preconstruction processes including Schematic Design and Design Development.
• Knowledge of product costs, labor costs, materials, and timelines to develop cost-effective budgets.
• Strong estimating, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead meetings and communicate professionally with project teams.

JOB TITLE: Estimator

REPORTS TO: Preconstruction Manager

PURPOSE: The purpose of this job is to manage the staff and resources involved/related to estimating and preconstruction to ensure quality budgets and estimates are created for our clients.

JOB DUTIES:

• Develop conceptual budgets, estimates, schedules, and proposals.
• Complete and organize quantity takeoffs.
• Review labor, material, and trade partners costs for accuracy.
• Solicit bids from trade partners and suppliers.
• Review bid documents and scopes to ensure costs are aligned.
• Review project documents and identify potential issues or concerns.
• Review designs for constructability and provide feedback.
• Develop and present value engineering options.
• Participate in budget review and project development meetings.
• Maintain cost history and project estimating data for future budgets.
• Keep estimate within the Client's budget and priorities and manages expectations
• Assist with the bidding process and project handoff.
• Communicate with clients, architects, engineers, trade partners, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Maintain positive relationships with current and past customers.
• Identify and communicate potential project opportunities.
• Participate in industry association events and networking opportunities.

• Follow company policies, OSHA requirements, building codes, and applicable laws.
• Attends Industry Association events such as IHA, WHA, WHEA, ISHE, MBI, AIA, ASPE.
• All other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

• Associate's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
• A minimum of 2-4 years of construction estimating experience.
• Experience with: Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Modelogix, and Bluebeam preferred.
• Understanding of the preconstruction process, including Schematic Design and Design Development.
• Knowledge of product costs, labor costs, materials, and project timelines needed to develop cost-effective project budgets.
• Strong estimating, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead effective meetings and communicate professionally with project teams, clients, trade partners and other stakeholders.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to build positive working relationships.
• Self-starter who works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work extended hours as needed during peak periods.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass post-offer employment testing
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug test
• Ability to take and pass OSHA 30 certification.
• Ability to travel to construction jobsites in Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin approximately 2-3 times per month. Limited overnight travel is expected.
• This is an onsite position. Must be able to work Monday-Friday from either the Cedar Rapids, IA or Madison, WI office
