Job summary

The Haskell Company is seeking an experienced Estimator/Cost Lead to manage Estimating personnel and develop accurate construction cost estimates for complex projects. You will influence preconstruction standards, coordinate with designers, clients, and operations, and drive bid strategies and procurement activities.

Qualified candidates have a BS in Engineering/Construction Management and at least five years of estimating experience, with strong leadership, communication and risk-management

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent; 5 years estimating experience.
  • Advanced mechanical systems knowledge: HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Suppression.
  • Leadership, mentoring and talent development skills; strong communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to identify project risk and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Strong subcontractor, supplier and market partner relationships.
  • Conceptual estimating and cost modeling capabilities.
  • Experience with Design-Build and CMAR project delivery.
  • Proficient in estimating software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Estimating personnel.
  • Develops and utilizes Preconstruction processes, standards and tools.
  • Develops accurate, detailed cost estimates and reviews other team members' estimates.
  • Develops scope clarifications and RFIs.
  • Develops market bid leveling analysis documents.
  • Reviews and recommends bidders from bid leveling analyses.
  • Develops project construction budgets.
  • Maintains Preconstruction software and historical costs.
  • Identifies risk items and works on Risk Register Development.
  • Participates in proposal win strategy and presentation.
  • Contributes to cost savings initiatives.
  • Works on bid packages.
  • Contributes to Preconstruction-Operations Turnover Meetings.
  • Works on subcontractor and vendor solicitations and relationships.
  • Works on project procurement and buyout.
  • Collaborates with Preconstruction Leadership, designers, clients, and operations teams.
  • Follows project construction costs and market trends.
  • Travel up to 10% as required.

In this role, you will manage Estimating personnel. You will also verify and develop accurate, detailed construction cost estimates. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and adherence of preconstruction standards and processes.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manages Estimating personnel.
  • Develops and ensures utilization of the Preconstruction processes, standards and tools.
  • Develops accurate, detailed cost estimates and reviews other Team Member's estimates.
  • Develops associated scope of work clarifications and requests for information (RFI's).
  • Develops market bid leveling analysis documents.
  • Reviews and recommends responsible bidders from bid leveling analysis documents.
  • Develops project construction budgets.
  • Develops, maintains Preconstruction software and historical costs.
  • Identifies risk items and works on the Risk Register Development.
  • Participates in proposal win strategy and presentation.
  • Contributes to cost savings exercises.
  • Works on the development of bid packages.
  • Contributes to coordination and participation in Preconstruction-Operations Turnover Meetings.
  • Works on Subcontractor and Vendor solicitations and relationships.
  • Works on project procurement and buyout.
  • Collaborates with Preconstruction Leadership, designers and clients, and the project operations team.
  • Follows project construction costs and market trends.
  • Travel up to 10% as required.
Education & Years of Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent and 5 years of estimating experience required.

  • Exceptional computer skills, including the utilization of estimating software systems.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

The base salary range for this position is $135,000-$175,000. The actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
