Job summary

Potelco, Inc. is seeking an Estimating Intern for Summer 2027 in Sumner, WA. You will learn preconstruction pricing for large transmission, distribution, substation, and utility projects under experienced estimators and project managers.

The internship runs 8–10 weeks, targets students in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, and pays $25 per hour with mentorship and real-world experience in infrastructure construction.

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in CM/CE/ME with junior standing and GPA ≥3.2.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic understanding of construction drawings.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, construction plans, and specifications.
• Support the preparation of quantity takeoffs and material estimates.
• Research labor, equipment, and material costs used in project estimates.
• Assist with compiling information for project bids and proposals.
• Organize and maintain estimate documentation and project files.
• Participate in internal estimate reviews and pre-bid meetings.
• Collaborate with estimating, engineering, and operations teams to gather project information.
• Attend job walks or site visits when applicable.
• Assist with spreadsheets, estimating tools, and project cost analysis.
• Maintain a strong focus on accuracy, organization, and safety.
• Other duties as assigned.

Our 8-10 week Estimating Internship is designed for students studying Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering who are interested in gaining hands‑on experience in the preconstruction side of infrastructure projects. Under the guidance of experienced Estimators and Project Managers, interns will learn how construction projects are evaluated, priced, and prepared for successful execution.

This internship provides exposure to large‑scale transmission, distribution, substation, and utility infrastructure projects that support power delivery across the Pacific Northwest.

PAY: $25.00/hour
