Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Electrical Engineer with a Protective Relaying emphasis in Fort Worth, TX. You will help design, engineer, and study protection systems for bulk power assets including substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, and distribution systems.

The role involves leading project teams, developing protection philosophy, relay settings, and coordinating with SCADA. Travel may be required; PE license preferred; ABET EE degree required; experience with IEEE/ANSI/NERCPRC

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 7–10 years' post-education experience in protective relaying for power systems.
  • PE license or ability to obtain one.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Proven safety compliance and policy adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, engineering and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment.
  • Develop protection philosophy and relay settings, integrate with SCADA.
  • Perform protection analyses: short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, and NERC compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead project teams to meet scope and schedule.
  • Support data collection during on-site visits and discuss project details with clients.
  • Adhere to IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards; manage multiple projects efficiently.

The successful applicantwill have a direct role in the design,engineering, and studiesof protection systems for equipmenton the bulk power system. This includes the protection of substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables,industrial,and distribution systems.

  • Protective Relaying:Symmetricalcomponentanalysis, protectionphilosophydevelopment, relay settings,andintegration with SCADA systems.

  • Protection Analyses:Electrical model development, short circuit,time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis

  • Leadership:Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Data Acquisition:Support infrequentonsite site visits to collect data and able to discuss project specifics atappropriate technicallevel forclients.

  • Industry Standards:Working knowledge or awareness of applicable industry practicesfor protection asoutlinedinIEEE, ANSI, or NERCPRCstandards.

  • Organized:Flexibility tosupportavariety ofprojectschedules to meetclientneeds and able to prioritize responsibilitieseffectively.

  • Applicable software:AcSELeratorQuickset,GEEnervista, ASPENOneliner,CAPE,SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD

  • Applicable hardware:SEL, GE, Siemens,ABB,Beckwith,RTDS

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-makingregardingcompany funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Performadditionalresponsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You Are:

RequiredQualifications


  • Bachelor’sdegree in Electrical Engineering(ABET accredited).

  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience as anelectrical engineerexecutingdeliverablesforProtective Relayingprojects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) licenseor ability to obtain one.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • Proventrack recordof upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment.

  • Preference may be given to engineers with commissioning and testing experience, or strong skills in protectingequipmentathigh voltages (69kV and higher).

  • Preference is also given to applicants with experience mentoring othersand a willingness to do so.
