Position Description
The Manager, ESS Commissioning, reporting to the Director of Commissioning & Testing, will oversee all aspects of ESS plant commissioning, including interconnection, site work, safety, startup, and project closeout. This role focuses on managing and overseeing all EPC ESS activities related to construction coordination, commissioning, startup, synchronization, testing, and the commencement of commercial operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Interface with Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Contractors, Integrators, PV Commissioning, Operations, and Off-takers to coordinate ESS commissioning activities.
- Oversee field commissioning activities performed by EPC contractors, focusing on BESS systems and potentially including Solar Field, Substation, Inverter, Tracker, Transformer, Meteorological station, Performance Instruments, SCADA, and utility testing related to the Point of Interconnection.
- Coordinate and track commissioning activities among EPC, BESS suppliers, SCADA suppliers, and other entities.
- Identify scope gaps between BESS supplier’s commissioning processes and those of EPC.
- Review factory and field-testing reports for ESS equipment.
- Review commissioning plans, testing procedures, and report templates.
- Review EPC contractor’s Switching Orders, LOTO procedures, and Commissioning Logs.
- Oversee preparation and scheduling of performance tests and review results.
- Participate in review of electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and studies, including load flow, reactive power, short circuit, relay coordination, and arc flash.
- Demonstrate understanding of plant output optimization, LOTO, testing, and commissioning procedures.
- Provide technical support in installation, testing, troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems.
- Translate technical issues into high-level reports for senior management.
- Collaborate with the Interconnection team on submission of interconnection, performance, and testing requirements.
- Review contractual exhibits related to commissioning scope of work.
- Integrate commissioning procedures with Fulcrum to improve process efficiency and documentation archiving.
- Review and resolve issues related to ESS commissioning documentation submitted by subcontractors.
- Provide guidance to Site Reps on quality inspections and ESS support.
- Develop and maintain ESS I&C standard documentation.
- Provide feedback from field experience to improve products and processes.
- Develop and review project-specific commissioning and testing plans.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, math, or related field (preferred but not required).
- Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in ESS commissioning.
- Experience in solar industry operations and construction preferred.
- Understanding of solar power generation principles.
Travel Up to 50% travel required.
