Job Description: Warehouse Worker at Alaska Railroad

Location: Alaska Railroad Operations Warehouse and Car Shop - $21.00 per hour

Supervisor: General Manager

Summary

Receives, stores, and distributes products from the warehouse to train cars.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Read par sheets to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed among units.
  2. Convey materials and items from receiving or production areas to train cars.
  3. Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined criteria such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  4. Store perishable goods in refrigerators and freezers.
  5. Fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items, and distribute items to train cars.
  6. Mark materials with identifying information.
  7. Open bales, crates, and other containers.
  8. Record amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
  9. Count items for distribution to train.
  10. Drive vehicle to transport stored items from warehouse to train.
  11. Maintain inventory records.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

Less than high school education; or up to one month of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words, recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers, and print and speak simple sentences.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

State of Alaska Food Handlers Card; TAP Certification; First Aid and CPR Certifications; Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stand and walk. Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions; occasionally exposed to extreme cold. Noise level is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
