Job summary

Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) is seeking an ESOL Instructor in Mattapan to provide English language instruction to adults and develop curricula for an enriching learning environment.

The role emphasizes individualized instruction, curriculum development, and collaboration with Education and Career Advisors. A relevant degree and teaching experience are required; TESOL and bilingual skills are preferred. The position ends June 11, 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field with 1–3 years teaching adults/youth in ESOL/ABE setting.
• Masters in TESOL and familiarity with DESE MA Curriculum Frameworks and CCR Standards preferred.
• TABE Reading/Writing and BEST Plus 2.0 certification preferred.
• Knowledge of curriculum design, development, assessment, and evaluation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bilingual English and Haitian Creole preferred, not required.
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Description

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program provides community members services to learn English or improve their ability to speak, read and write in English. Join us as ESOL Instructor in creating a supportive and enriching environment for our community. Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing individualized and group instruction to adults in English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes.
• Conduct on-site activities; plan and develop curricula and materials. Participate in activities of the ABCD Adult Education System.
• Work with Education and Career Advisor in the development of Individual Education and Career Plans based on learner goals, needs, and assessment.
• Utilize online platforms and other resources to conduct classes and maintain communication with students.
• Develop and document materials, curriculum and resources.
• Provide periodic academic assessment and program evaluation.
• Participate in staff and program development activities, including developing and implementing an Individual Professional Development Plan.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences or related field, and one to three years of previous teaching experience with adults and/or youth, preferably in ABE, ASE, or ESOL in a community based setting required.
• Masters in TESOL and familiarity with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education MA Curriculum Frameworks and College and Career Readiness Standards preferred.
• Certification in administering and scoring the TABE Reading and Writing and BEST Plus 2.0 preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design, development, assessment, and evaluation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bilingual skills in English and Haitian Creole preferred, not required
• Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

Expected Salary: $50,577.20 annually ($27.79/hour) USD. Salary scales are set according to an explicit compensation policy and relevant market data. Due to funding restrictions and our strong focus on internal parity, this salary is thoughtfully aligned with the duties expected for this role, and offers are firm.
