Job summary

Morton College seeks an ESL instructor to teach beginning to advanced levels of ESL/ELA. You will use approved syllabi, textbooks, and supplemental materials, and submit a personalized syllabus to the Deans’ Office electronically one week prior to start.

You design engaging activities, apply diverse teaching strategies, assess student progress with multiple methods, and maintain attendance and grade records while collaborating in professional development and FERPA compliance.

Qualifications

• BA degree in education or related field.
• Training of coursework in second language instructional methodology.
• Proficiency in oral and written English.
• Must demonstrate Morton College core values of compassion, equity, accountability, innovation, excellence, and respect.
• MA in TESOL or related field (preferred).
• Three years of ESL teaching experience (preferred).
• Knowledge of a second language and completion of ESL instructional workshops (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Teach beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced levels of ESL/ELA.
• Utilize departmental syllabus templates, approved textbooks, and supplemental materials.
• Submit personalized course syllabi to the Deans’ Office electronically one week before course start.
• Design activities to help ESL students meet their goals and use diverse teaching strategies.
• Use multiple assessments to evaluate student learning and maintain attendance records.
• Maintain a grade book and respond to student emails in a timely manner.
• Participate in professional development activities and adhere to FERPA standards.
