This role collaborates with a licensed nurse and Patient Care Technicians under supervision to ensure patient safety and deliver basic care. Responsibilities include constant observation of patients, notifying staff of changes, intervening as needed, and communicating effectively with patients, families, and team members. Non-clinical duties may be assigned if no patient safety attendant role is available.

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

Required: None. Preferred: Experience in a psychiatric environment and computer data entry skills.

Certifications

Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training must be completed prior to independent patient care. Certification as a Nursing Assistant is required in Skilled Nursing Facilities or areas with Patient Care Tech duties.

  • Good communication skills, especially with psychiatric and mentally ill patients.
  • Ability to use judgment to monitor and respond to patient changes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and related applications.
Job Duties
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Assist with care plans as delegated by nursing staff.
  • Provide care based on patient needs across physical, psycho/social, educational, and safety domains.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions.
  • Perform other duties as required.
