Job description

ESG Disclosure Analyst

Averon Analytics is opening its first North America engagement team. This is one of two roles on it. You build the sustainability disclosure file a client hands to its auditor, its lenders and its largest customers — the numbers, the source behind each number, and the paper trail that lets someone else check the work.

Location Remote — United States

Base salary $58,000–$72,000

Schedule Mon–Fri, 9:00–17:30 ET

Team Charlotte, NC desk — 4 people by Q2

What the disclosure file actually is

A large customer, a lender or an auditor asks a company to state its energy use, its emissions, its waste, its water, and increasingly what its suppliers do too. Someone then has to produce a document where every figure traces back to a meter reading, an invoice, a fuel card statement or a signed supplier response — and where the gaps are labelled as gaps instead of quietly averaged away. That document is the disclosure file. Building and defending it is the job.

Averon Analytics has done this work for eleven years for clients in India and the Gulf. Our North America clients are now being asked for the same file by their own customers, so we are putting a small team on this side of the Atlantic rather than running it overnight from Bengaluru.

This is a reporting and evidence role. It is not field work, not a lab role, and not a software role — there is nothing to build or code here.

The work, week by week

Weeks are uneven, because reporting cycles are uneven. Across a quarter it comes out roughly like this.

  • Collecting. Chasing utility bills, fuel records, waste manifests and travel data out of site managers who have twelve other things to do. Most of the job’s difficulty lives here.
  • Converting. Turning what arrives into comparable numbers using the published emission factors, and writing down which factor set and which version you used.
  • Checking. Comparing this quarter against last, finding the site whose electricity halved because a meter was misread, and running it down before it reaches a draft.
  • Sourcing. Attaching evidence to every line, so a reviewer can click from a number to the invoice behind it without asking you.
  • Surveying suppliers. Sending the supplier questionnaire, logging what comes back, flagging the ones whose answers contradict their own published figures.
  • Drafting. Writing the narrative sections in plain English, including the honest paragraph about what is estimated and why.
What we look for

We hire for judgement and care with evidence, not for years on a CV. Backgrounds outside sustainability are read on their merits — people who have done month-end close, utility billing, lab or QA documentation, grant reporting, insurance claims or procurement admin tend to recognise this work immediately.

  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline, or equivalent work history you can talk us through.
  • Real comfort in a spreadsheet: pivot tables, lookups, a tidy tab someone else can follow. Macros and scripting are not part of the role.
  • Clear written English — you will draft paragraphs that go into a client’s published report.
  • The instinct to ask where a number came from before you use it, and to write the answer down.
  • Authorisation to work in the United States. We do not sponsor visas for this role.

Helpful but not expected: exposure to GHG Protocol, CDP, GRI, ISSB or CSRD vocabulary; utility or facilities data; any audit or assurance environment.

Questions people ask before applying
Is this a junior seat or a senior one?

Neither, honestly. It is a first-team seat: your files go to a named reviewer before a client sees them, and you present your own quarter to the client by the second cycle.

What does the first month look like?

Four structured weeks on our documentation standard and one live client’s historical data, with everything you produce double-checked before release. Nobody is asked to guess what good output looks like.

Who would I report to?

The North America practice lead, with a senior disclosure reviewer as your day-to-day check.

How much travel is there?

Four internal weeks a year, plus the occasional client site visit when a meter question can only be settled in person. Under 10% overall.

Is this role tied to any political position?

No. We report what the data supports and label what it does not. Clients hire us because that file has to survive an auditor, not because of a stance.

How the hiring runs

Application form, then a 25-minute call about your background and what the work really involves, then a timed exercise of about an hour on a sample data set with two deliberate errors in it, then a conversation with the practice lead about the exercise, the team and terms. Two to three weeks end to end, and we tell you where you stand at each step.

Shortlisted candidates hear from us within five business days of applying. If that window passes without an email, your application did not go forward for this round — and you are welcome to apply again when the next seat opens.
